Bringing a Craftsman Back to Life

Restoring a home in Eugene, OR

Eugene, Oregon — February to July 2025

When I first saw this little Craftsman on River Road, it immediately caught my attention. It had the kind of character you can’t recreate. Even though it was tired and worn, I could see what it could become with the right attention and effort. At JCHR Holdings, I look for properties that still have good bones and a story to tell. This one fit that perfectly.

The place needed everything. Roof, paint, plumbing, electrical, siding, flooring, drywall, cabinets, insulation, gutters, basement work, even the accessory unit in back. It was a full rebuild from top to bottom. Most people would have walked away, but I saw potential and wanted to bring the home back to life while keeping its original character intact.

We started in February and finished in late July. The project touched every part of the property, including the detached shop and accessory unit. The team at Between the Cracks Construction handled the work, and they were outstanding. They were responsive, detail-oriented, and truly went above and beyond to make sure the vision came together. Their craftsmanship and sense of urgency made all the difference.

When it was finished, the house felt like a completely new space while still feeling true to its roots. The kitchen is bright and open, the rooms flow naturally, and every corner feels warm and livable. Outside, fresh paint, new windows, and a cleaned-up yard completely changed the look. The accessory unit now feels like a proper extension of the property instead of an afterthought.

Even with experience, there are always surprises. This project came with its share of unplanned costs and curveballs. That’s just part of flipping. The goal was simple: create the best possible version of this home. By keeping that focus, we were able to sell quickly and for more than double the purchase price. Quality work and a clear vision pay off. Every time.

Flipping isn’t about rushing to the finish line. It’s about making the right choices, surrounding yourself with good people, and being patient with the process. This home was a reminder that craftsmanship and care still matter. When you put in the effort, buyers notice. If you’re thinking about taking on a flip, start with a clear plan, find a great contractor, and expect the unexpected. It’s hard work, but there’s nothing quite like seeing an old home come back to life.
